FPV Racing is an amazing rush, and the community is equally amazing. We recommend finding a MultiGP group near you. You can use Facebook and MultiGP.com. You may also be wondering what you’ll need to get started. Well, here you go:
The quad:
The racing quad is composed of a number of parts, each of which can be purchased on this site. You can also have one professionally built for you here: https://www.racedayquads.com/collections/build-services
We recommend having one built your first time. But, if you’re intent on building your own or want to know what it consists of, the parts of a quadcopter are:
- A frame: https://www.racedayquads.com/collections/frames
- 4 motors (and 4 propellers): https://www.racedayquads.com/collections/motors-escs
-
4 electronic speed controls (ESC): https://www.racedayquads.com/collections/motors-escs
- These transfer signals from the flight controller to the motors
-
A flight controller (FC): https://www.racedayquads.com/collections/flight-controllers
- This controls the quadcopter
-
A power distribution board (PDB): https://www.racedayquads.com/collections/accessories/products/diatone-v8-3-filtered-power-distribution-board
- This takes power from the battery and distributes it to the flight controller and ESCs
- A FPV Camera: https://www.racedayquads.com/collections/fpv-cameras
- A video transmitter (VTX): https://www.racedayquads.com/products/eachine-ts5840-40ch-200mw-vtx
- A video transmitter antenna: https://www.racedayquads.com/collections/vtxs-fv-cams/products/tbs-triumph-antenna-sma
-
A receiver: https://www.racedayquads.com/collections/accessories/products/frsky-x4r-sb-receiver-no-pins
- This takes input from your controller
- A battery (just go 4S): https://www.racedayquads.com/collections/batteries
But, cost wise, this is only about half of what you will need. You will also need:
- A transmitter (get a Taranis X9D Plus): https://www.racedayquads.com/collections/frsky/products/frsky-taranis-x9d-plus-2-4ghz-radio-with-soft-case-mode-2?variant=30288274183
- Goggles (lookup Fatshark goggles)
- A battery charger (do your own research for these)
- Tools for fixing your quad (see if you have a Harbor Freight near you)
- A GOOD soldering iron (we recommend this one: https://www.amazon.com/Full-Vastar-110V-Soldering-Iron/dp/B01712N5C4/ref=sr_1_4?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1467923894&sr=1-4&keywords=soldering+iron)
- Shrink wrap for wires and XT60 connectors https://www.racedayquads.com/pages/accessories
This is not a complete list, but this is a great start. Happy flying and thanks for buying RDQ!
