The Beginner DIY Drone Kit - QAV-S 2 Joshua Bardwell SE 5” - HD is now available at RDQ! This kit is HD Ready and compatible with either the DJI O3 or Walksnail systems. The FPV system is not included, add another bird to your fleet or try something new. Whether you've built hundreds of quads or this is your very first build, this DIY kit is the simplest way to build an fpv drone from scratch. Joshua Bardwell, Lumenier, and Xilo have partnered up to create this amazing kit and all of the info to build this QAV-S 2 drone.

Note: Digital HD FPV System and receiver are not included. A receiver that is compatible with your controller is required. This is a Full DIY Build Kit with assembly required.

This HD Ready DIY Kit has been developed and designed with the addition of the long-awaited QAV-S 2 frame! Lumenier and Xilo have been working side by side with Joshua Bardwell on multiple features to make this kit even better than the last:

New Airframe Design: The QAV-S 2 - Joshua Bardwell Edition frame optimizes the space and weight for a 5” quad design, with a low profile body for electronics, enough space to fit an Analog or Digital Video System, engineered center of gravity when carrying an Action Camera, and strong and structured design that is meant for hardcore freestyle.
X-Lock Arm Mechanism: The Lumenier QAV-S 2 Bardwell SE introduces a new lateral X-Lock arm system! This all-aluminum arm locking system improves on the QAV-S design in both rigidity and ease of use, providing two-axis clamping that is mechanically isolated from the main plates and flight controller stack. The new lock system also allows the arms to fold with only one screw for easy transportation.
O3, Vista, and Walksnail Compatible Mounting: The rear plate adds 25.5 M1.6 mount holes to allow direct mounting of the O3 air unit to the frame. This frame can also house the Vista/Walksnail system in rear-mounting orientation. (HDZero works in center-mounting orientation with FC or ESC in the rear.)
Aluminum FPV Camera Plates: The new FPV camera mounting solution offers excellent camera protection and support for a range of cameras. The use of a unique interlocking system allows for minimal hardware and strengthens the front end while staying lightweight.

The "HD Ready" kit comes without an FPV system so you can choose your own HD system to add to your build. The analog kit includes the analog FPV video transmitter and camera.

This was my first kit

"This was my first kit I have built, but is my 3rd drone. Overall the drone is great! It definitely needs some PID tuning, but it flys decently with how they have you set it up. The electronics are squarely mid quality IMO, but they are appropriate for the cost. I do think that after a few years that the build tutorial from bardwell needs updates. The stack is on V3 and AM32 now, so I had some struggles when it came to getting my ESC working and the DJI remote set up. Be ready for some troubleshooting if this is the route you go. That said, the support from GetFPV has been fantastic and in the end, I am a happy customer that built a drone I love."

Important for HDZero users!

"A warning to HDZero people: The HDzero freestyle VTX bundle with Nano 90 camera is not totally compatible with this frame. The bundle includes a silicone spacer (which is a little bit to small and there is still space between spacer and fram), and screws that DO NOT FIT, just as in JB´s video. He says he hopes there are screws that fit that will be in the fram kit. There is not, which was pretty disappointing. He uses M2x6 mm screws which you need to buy separately! I used these, and they barely bite, and don't really feel secure. I haven't tried bigger ones yet, but I guess they will hold, until a big crash. Apart from this, and a lot of waiting for extra screws and another battery strap, I´m really happy about the product."

"I’m a first-time flyer and building a drone for the first time, and this kit is great and relatively easy to build. However, you WILL NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SOLDER. It’s not that difficult to learn, but can be a major hitch for beginners. All else in consideration, this is perfect for beginners and the video guide is an awesome resource."

Awesome Kit and Great Build!

"I built and fly a 9" Paramotor RC. I wanted to challenge myself with FPV and a quad build. A friend of mine recommended JB and how easy it was to build his 5" FPV quad. I ordered everything I needed to build the Lumenier QAV-S 2 kit. The video walkthru is awesome. The kit went together well. My maiden flight was a success! I would like to have the kit updated to include plastic skid pads. The learning curve of my RadioMaster Boxer will take time to master. I also purchased a flight simulator program on Steam, Real Flight Evolution, programmed the Boxer to work with the flight simulator. It is helping me learn the controls and build confidence rather quickly. Thanks again."

Great kit and instructions, but my FC blew up

"The kit comes with most everything you need, and Joshua Bardwell's videos explain it beautifully. My only complaint is the Flight Controller. It had a hardware failure and was backordered, so it had to be replaced with one from a different vendor. It made that part of the build more complicated. GetFPV was great about it, but I'll be avoiding the Xilo Stax stuff moving forward."

Does this quad have a gps installed: No
With additional components/hw, can this be setup to use a DJI FPV Remote Controller 2, and how?: If you add the DJI O3 Air Unit VTX, yes, I Believe Bardwell in the build playlist even covers setting it up. It is a setting in beta flight.
Approximately how much will the quadcopter weigh? Because here in europe we are bound by maximum weights for your pilot's license.: More than 250 grams so you need to do the A1/A3 online training if you are flying for yourself and not commercial (category A1 above 250g).
can this drone carry a gopro 11 mini?: 100% with ease
Can you fit a tbs crossfire in here and what model do you suggest?: I think you can. I’m using expresslrs and it’s a pretty easy install.
In this bundle what type of batteries are recommended? I have a DJI mini 2 se and want to step up to freestyle drone. Can you point me in the right direction? Would love to build my own drone: You can get the Lumenier N2O 1500mAh 6s 120c Lipo Battery or XILO 1250mAh 6S 100c Basher LiPo Battery XT60 or Lumenier N2O Feather-Lite 1300mAh 6S 150c LiPo Battery (XT-60). I would recommend getting one with the highest MAH( lumenier 1500 mah)
